GOVERNMENT GAZETTTTE NO.17791 DATED 21 FEBRUARY 1997 GENERAL NOTICE 332 OF 1997 BOARD ON TARIFFS AND TRADE NOTICE OF PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION OF INVESTIGATION INTO THE REVIEW OF THE ANTI-DUMPING DUTY ON MEN'S WOMEN'S, BOYS' AND GIRLS' UNDERWEAR, IMPORTED FROM OR ORIGINATING IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA (PRC) The Board on Tariffs & Trade gave public notice of its investigation into the review of the anti-dumping duty on men's, women's, boys' and girls' underwear, imported from or originating in the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Notice 1507, published in the Government Gazette on 18 October 1996.

The Board made a preliminary determination that, as all information submitted to the Board indicated that the expiry of the duty would lead to the continuation of dumping and injury, the anti-dumping duty as still warranted. The Board therefore decided not to recommend the withdrawal of the anti-dumping duty imposed on men's, women's, boys' and girls' underwear imported from or originating in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) and to recommend that the duty be retained for another five years.

All interested parties have 30 days from the publication of this notice to respond to the Board's preliminary determination. A report containing the Board's decision and the basis for this decision is available on request.

The Board will make a final determination on the basis of the facts at its disposal after the time limit specified above.

Enquiries may be directed to the Investigating Officers, Mr A Erasmus at telephone (012) 310-9819 or Ms C Grove at telephone (012) 310-9815.
