Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) is operating normally following a power outage that affected several flights on Monday.

The Airports Company of South Africa (Acsa) confirmed on Tuesday that CTIA  is now operating as normal after the power outage disrupted both incoming and outgoing flights.

The power failure affected runway lights and navigational services, preventing at least two flights from Maputo and a KLM aircraft from landing, and affecting an SAA and Airlink flight.

Acsa said in a statement that its technicians had attended to the fault and airport operations have returned to normal.

“A team of Acsa technicians continued to work throughout the night, and most work has been completed. However, the team remains on site finalising the repairs and testing the systems,” Acsa said.

“Travellers are still advised to regularly check the status of their flight information in order to plan their journey accordingly. Acsa would once again like to apologise to all passengers, airport users, and stakeholders for the inconvenience caused.”

Acsa said despite the disruption at the airport 11 aircraft had arrived safely throughout the early hours of Monday, July 29.
