SHIP OWNERS will, in future, charge charterers the daily cost of vessels which are forced to wait in Richards Bay and Durban harbours when booked ferro chrome cargo is not available at the load port on the nominated day within the laycan.
Meetings of members of the bulk-breakbulk industry, representatives of the ferro chrome industry and Portnet and Spoornet were held last week, when it was agreed that new regulations regarding costs will apply from April 1, 2000.
Owners will charge the charterer the daily cost of the vessel from 0600 the day after the vessel is ready to receive the cargo until the cargo is available for loading.
