Open to 18 to 30 year olds ALAN PEAT AFTER THE success of the last “young international freight forwarder of the year” competition run by the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff), another will be held for 2006 – with the association’s R5 000 donation being awarded to the local winner so that they can attend an international educational event at the Port of Antwerp in Belgium. That winner will also become eligible as a possible winner of the Africa-Middle East regional competition and to take part in the overall young international forwarder event – with even grander educational prizes on offer to the global winner. The SA competition will be run with the same rules and regulations, and posing the same questions, as the global competition. For the SA prize, Edward Little, FIATA’s SA representative, has contacted the Port of Antwerp and requested that they offer a bursary which would cover the cost of the course and the accommodation – with the Saaff donation paying for the airfare. The competition is open to young freight forwarders between the ages of 18-and-30, who have completed at least two years of full-time forwarding work. Each must submit a dissertation in English on a topic nominated by the steering committee. As the national association in each country is to nominate a candidate by January 15, Saaff has invited all those interested in participating to submit their dissertation prior to December 31.
