Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has been asked by Boeing to send extra engineers to oversee quality checks of its Boeing 737-900MAX aircraft.
This has come to light after an Alaska Airlines flight was grounded following a mid-air blowout of a panel in the fuselage of one of its Boeing 737-900MAXs’.
A spokesperson for Ryanair told the BBC that quality at Boeing was improving, but the incident had shown that there was “more to be done”.
In the week following the incident, Alaska Airlines announced that it had met with Boeing executives to get a commitment from them that the quality of its aircraft would be carefully scrutinised.
Ryanair does not use that specific 737 variant but does use the 737-8 and has some of the 737-10 on order.
