Leonard Neill TRANSPORT OPERATORS making use of the single customs document facility on the TransKalahari Highway should provide their drivers with a printed copy of the document as well as submitting it electronically to the border post customs offices. “It’s a temporary measure but essential to help speed up the traffic flow,” says South African Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF) executive director Ed Little. Currently drivers are arriving at the single window open to them at the South African/Botswana border post for the one-stop clearance. If they can present the document they face little delay. But without it the customs officer needs to call up their details on the computer, which causes delays. “Customs will shortly introduce a separate window for drivers without a document,” says Little.
