BANK LINE is considering the addition of a third vessel to its monthly service between South Africa, East Africa, the Gulf, Karachi and Bombay.
UK-based director of parent company Andrew Weir Shipping, Alasdair MacVean, was in Johannesburg this week to assess the viability, and told FTW that the service could be upgraded by the middle of this year.
The line currently deploys two sister vessels, the Forthbank and Clydebank, on the route. It has four vessels in this class which MacVean believes are ideally suited to the trade.
The question is whether we should put on more tonnage and jazz up our gear by adding heavier cranage, he told FTW.
This is what we're deciding at the moment and we would hope to introduce a third vessel later this year.
