As more and more countries around the world give Africa the cold shoulder following the discovery of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 by local researchers, Qatar Airways has announced that it will, with immediate effect, no longer accept passengers travelling from five Southern African countries in its global network.
The airline will, however, continue to accept passengers for travel into these countries in line with current restrictions.
On the banned list are Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
“These restrictions will remain in place until we receive further guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO),” according to a spokesperson. “We will continue to review the situation on a daily basis as new information becomes available.”
