Bunker fuel availability stabilises after throughput uncertainty

The availability of bunker fuel for the Port of Durban has significantly stabilised after earlier uncertainty that led to the lack of availability particularly of high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) for several consecutive days.

From information Freight News has seen, HSFO and very low sulphur-fuel oil (VLSFO) are both well stocked at the port.

The price for HSFO reported earlier today was $270.

VLSFO was well above that at $375.

The return of stability and availability of both types of fuel comes as markets increasingly re-open to improved global trade, driving imports and exports and yielding stronger throughput figures because of increased ocean freight volumes.
