Transnet pensioners have filed answering affidavits in a class action they instituted against the logistics utility in the North Gauteng High Court in April, according to Business Report. Some 65 000 pensioners of the Transport Pension Fund and the Transnet Second Defined Benefit Fund requested the court to hear their case on behalf of the pensioners. They are involved in a civil claim to recover about R79bn, which they claim Transnet plundered from their pension funds If the court agrees, Geyser & Coetzee Attorneys, representing the pensioners collectively, said the next step would be a further court application on the merits of the pensioners’ claims. Transnet, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba requested a postponement to file their answering affidavits.
