The 2015 Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) has revealed that the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region dominated the list of countries with the best governance.
With an average score of 58.9, the SADC region outshone the rest of Africa, according to newspaper the Southern Times.
Central Africa ranked the lowest, scoring 40.9 – the only region to have worsened since 2011.
However, it is important to note that 21 countries have deteriorated in overall governance since 2011, with five coming from the top ten, said Mo Ibrahim Foundation chairperson Mo Ibrahim.
“Only six countries register an improvement across each of the four categories of the IIAG which are
Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia and Zimbabwe,” he added.
South Africa ranked fourth, with a score of 73.
