Transnet has finally removed a freight train wreckage near Warrenton in the Northern Cape - six months after the incident.
According to the DA, an exposé of Transnet’s failure to remove the wreckage is what set the wheels in motion.
An oversight inspection of the site of the wreckage last week showed that the 16 freight cars had finally been removed, according to a spokesman.
At the time of the accident, they were carrying grain.
Prolonged failure by Transnet to contain the site resulted in the grain and other removable items being plundered.
