New Containerlink devices ensure accuracy NATIONAL CONTAINER depot operator Containerlink has fitted New Zealand designed and manufactured Loadrite load weighing devices to its heavy lift equipment in Durban and Johannesburg in response to customer requests for accurate measurement and recording of full container weights.
Loadrite is a microprocessor-based weighing system and Containerlink's handling and storage depots are the first in the country to provide a weighing service as a verification measure to importers and exporters, according to Containerlink g.m. Ian Munro.
Discrepancies between documented and actual weights can now be detected upon receipt of containers and customers can be notified immediately, he explained.
Each container handled is recorded with the system maintaining an independent record and printout of all full containers received and despatched by the depot.
In addition to weight verification, Loadrite is presently working on a programme which will enable Containerlink depots to double-check full and empty trailer-borne container movements in and out of their facilities for security purposes.
Connected to the hydraulic lifting system, it measures the hydraulic pressure required to raise the load and converts this into a digital weight reading on the console mounted in the driver's cabin. The driver captures container data on a keyboard and an anti-vibration mounted printer generates single or multiple copy weighing information which includes date, time and container details.
A series of weights can be accumulated on a shift, daily or weekly basis and this information can be printed, stored or transferred to computer.
