Danish container line Maersk has issued an advisory stating that ongoing delays continue to impact sailings across the globe, with more than a week between departures from Asia in certain instances.
Following Russia’s assault on Ukraine yesterday and today, severe backlogs of services linking the Mediterranean with the Far East are also not likely to be alleviated any time soon.
“The unprecedented situation of severe port congestion globally continues to result in accumulation of delays across several services on the Asia to Med network,” said Maersk.
“This situation is driven by a combination of increased demand, and measures to fight the pandemic across ports and supply chains in general.
“These accumulated delays are currently causing further gaps in schedules and have resulted in several Asia departures being spread apart by more than seven days.”
As a result of the continuing backlog crisis at world ports, Maersk said it had decided to adjust certain sailing schedules.
Also filtering through are reports of port congestion in Northern Europe and America snarling up 12.4% of the world’s vessels.
Sea freight challenges north of the Equator will undoubtedly have an impact on sailings down south, especially container availability as northern supply chain operations continue to jockey for throughput amid increasing port-side constraints.
