A passenger jetty at the Port of Santos in Brazil has been rammed by a Hamburg Süd box ship, which tore a hole in its portside hull as it veered too close to the quay.
It’s not the first time that this particular jetty has been taken out by a carrier.
In 2018 a Hapag-Lloyd vessel was involved in a similar accident.
In yesterday’s incident, the 10 500 Cap San Antonio can be seen tearing a gash into its hull, with ballast water pouring out before it crashed into the jetty.
The ship, which was on its way to Paranagua further down the coast, is awaiting repairs at an outer anchorage.
Port authorities said it was not clear how the accident had happened, and an investigation was under way.
