An exporter of maize from Mpumalanga to Mozambique is requesting information on the situation at the Lebombo-Ressano Garcia border on the Maputo Corridor.
This comes after Lebombo allegedly closed because of a foot and mouth disease scare at the border.
The exporter, who represents a Swiss concern operating in southern Africa, said: “We’re reading our brokers’ commodity report and they made mention of that.”
However, the accuracy of the report remains unconfirmed.
The exporter added that his company represented the interests of local mills wanting to supply maize to Mozambique because of a shortage of the staple in that country.
