Saudi Cargo has joined African aviation leader Ethiopian Airways and at least 15 other airlines to speed up coronavirus vaccine distribution as part of the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (Covax) initiative by the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef).
Combined the airlines have routes accessing 100 countries but its Covax reach will include 145.
According to reports, at least 3% of the population from these countries will be vaccinated against the virus through Unicef’s Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative.
Saudi Cargo CEO Omar Hariri said the airline was committed to meeting Unicef’s distribution standards, getting vaccines to their respective destinations securely and on time.
Other airlines tasked with Covax distribution include Astral Aviation, AirBridgeCargo, Emirates SkyCargo, Brussels Airlines, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, IAG Cargo, Korean Air, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, and a KLM Air France joint venture.
